The sapphic identity is one that is not bound to the traditional roles of masculinity and femininity but rather defines itself both in the beyond and in between. Shot on 4x5 film and printed using cyanotype and salt printing techniques, American Sapphic juxtaposes the contemporary expressions and expectations of the sapphic identity against traditional methods of making a photograph.
